
His Highness the Prime Minister of Kuwait Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and a delegation accompanying him arrived at Palam Air Base on Thursday on a two-day official visit. The visit comes in response to an official invitation extended by the Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh. Sheikh Jaber said in a statement upon arrival that he was delighted to visit India and that his visit comes as an embodiment of the distinguished historical relations between the two countries. He added that his visit also comes as furtherance of results of the official visit of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to India in 2006, which was a continued confirmation of deep historical relations between the two countries. He pointed out that the relations between India and Kuwait have always been strong thanks to the joint ventures established by both countries' communities since the fifties which had contributed to achieving development in various sectors, especially the private sector. He noted the increasing volume of trade exchange between the two countries and expressed the desire to expand the horizons of cooperation to all areas. Hs said that Kuwait is looking to benefit from India's significant progress witnessed in the fields of technology, industry and economics, adding that Kuwait wants India's cooperation in order to transform Kuwait into a regional and international financial and commercial hub. He expressed appreciation of the Kuwaiti people for the position adopted by India during the Iraqi invasion in 1990 especially during India 's membership in the Security Council. Sheikh Jaber was greeted upon arrival by a number of senior Indian and Kuwaiti officials.
