Kuwaiti efforts behind removing sanctions on charitable entity

Efforts by Islamic Society for Social Reform (Al-Islah Al-Ijtmaee) and the Foreign Ministry of Kuwait succeeded in lifting the Islamic Dawah Committee from the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) sanctions\' list, said an official here Monday. Chairman of Al-Islah Society Humoud Hamad Al-Roumi said that the Dawah Committee was falsely accused of terrorist activities, however, the Kuwaiti efforts helped refute such claims and strike it off the UNSC list. The committee will continue its efforts to help the poor and its mission in spreading the peaceful teachings of Islamic to the globe, said Al-Roumi. Undersecretary General of Al-Islah Society Fahad Al-Shmiri said that the society was glad to hear the news in regards to the Dawah committee, affirming that the decision to put the committee on the list on February 6th, 2002 was unjust. Al-Shmiri said that the decision was a shock to them especially knowing that the committee was conducting charitable operations since 1984. The committee\'s long-standing history in providing charity and aid to millions around the globe is a clear evidence on the committee\'s charitble and peaceful nature. On September 5th, the UN Security Council Al-Qaeda Sanctions\' Committee removed Dawah Committee from its sanctions\' list. Representative of the State of Kuwait to the United Nations Ambassador Mansour Al-Otaibi said that \"We are content over the decision, which came as a result of many years of hard work, with many meetings held in New York and some capitals of UNSC Member States, during which, officials of the Dawah Committee presented, through the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry, detailed information on the entity\'s charitable nature and activities in many countries.
