Ed Miliband, leader of the British Labor Party, ran into an angry egg thrower during a visit to a London market Wednesday. Miliband\'s attacker, Dean Porter, was a man who said he had been homeless, The Guardian reported. The man said Labor, like the Conservatives, is \"on the side of the rich.\" The Labor leader had been telling shoppers in East London that the Conservatives are \"out of touch.\" He said getting hit with eggs is a \"new way to connect with voters.\" Generally, Miliband got a friendly reception, with one supporter following him with a chorus of \"We like you, Labor.\" After an egg hit his suit jacket, Miliband took it off and carried it for the rest of the tour. Many of the eggs went wide of the mark, hitting reporters and aides. Michael Deacon, a parliamentary sketch writer for The Daily Telegraph, said in a first-person account he had the bad luck to be next to Miliband when the volley began. He said he ended up \"plastered with yolk.\" Deacon said Miliband\'s next stop was a diner. \"I would have gone in, but I was worried one of the customers would mistake me for their order,\" he wrote. Porter was escorted away by security guards, The Guardian said. Police said Miliband did not want him prosecuted. Miliband himself sent a tweet later Wednesday: \"Thanks to all at East St. Market for the warm welcome today. Can recommend it for easy availability of eggs.\"
