Two elderly women are dead and damages from a violent storm Saturday in the northern Alto Aldige region could total as much as 10 million euros, according to initial estimates Monday. A weekend storm brought a torrential downpour that hit hardest in the Vizze Valley near the town of Vipiteno. Two landslides swept through separate farms where two elderly women were killed, one in Avenes and the other in Tulve, both small hamlets in the municipality of Prati di Vizze. At least 35 farms and outbuildings were damaged, and another 40 homes, many in Vipiteno, were damaged and are being evacuated with residents taking shelter in a local gymnasium.
