Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had a telephone conversation with U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Monday to discuss the settlement of the crisis in Syria. Lavrov and Ban Ki-moon stressed the need to deflate the crisis in Syria and ensure security of peaceful civilians in the country, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported. “The meeting focused on the military and political situation in Syria, including in light of the events in El Quseir. Lavrov and Ban Ki-moon agreed to deflate the crisis and ensure security of peaceful civilians. To this end, it is necessary all parties involved in the Syrian conflict to observe international humanitarian law,” the ministry said.
