Libya defence minister cuts visit to Jordan over violence in Tripoli

Libyan Defence Minister Abdullah Al-Thani cut his visit to Amman Friday and returned home to address violence that erupted in Tripoli, leaving about 15 people dead and dozens injured. The Misrata militia reportedly opened fire with heavy machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades at protesters as they approached its headquarters in the Gharghour district in the capital. Thousands of protesters gathered in the Libyan capital, calling to intensify the security presence and end the militias’ rule.
