Libya\'s dar al-Ifta: Sharia must be main source of legislation

The Islamic educational institution Dar Al-Ifta in Tripoli, Libya, has decreed Sharia law must be the main source of Libyan legislation. Any law contrary to Sharia, the moral code and religious law of Islam considered the infallible law of God, would be considered void, the head of the Dar Al-Ifta, the Grand Mufti Sheikh Sadik al-Ghriani said. A decision, drawn up by the Dar Al-Ifta's Research and Religious Studies Council and announced Dec. 22, said it is not permissible for any law passed to be contrary to Sharia, which itself, the council said, supersedes the Libyan constitution. The Dar Al-Ifta also condemned the recent wave of assassinations in Libya, calls to boycott elections and the description of anyone in Libyan government as infidels, the Libya Herald reported Wednesday.
