Members of Libya\'s ruling National Transitional Council (NTC) started late Monday to vote for head of the country\'s post-war transitional government. The vote was being conducted in the presence of domestic and foreign journalists in Tripoli. An NTC official said there were originally eight candidates competing for the post, but three of them withdrew from the race before the public vote. The winner will replace Mahmoud Jibril, who has repeatedly said he would step down as the country\'s interim prime minister, officially known as head of the NTC\'s executive board, after NTC forces took full control of Libya.
