Libya’s official authorities have apologized for an attack on the Russian embassy in Tripoli and vowed to have this incident thoroughly investigated, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Sunday. “After 14:00 Moscow time on February 5, an unauthorized rally under anti-Russian slogans was staged in front of the Russian embassy in Tripoli to protest against Russia’s position while voting a resolution on Syria at the United Nations Security Council,” the ministry said. “The protests, numbering several dozens, climbed onto the roof of the embassy building, damaged surveillance cameras and hauled down the Russian flag.” “No one of the Russian diplomats was hurt. No serious damage was done to the embassy,” the ministry noted. “After our resolute moves in respect of Libya’s official authorities in Tripoli and Libya’s embassy in Moscow, measure were taken to ensure security of the Russian embassy.” “The action was ended by 17:00 Moscow time,” the ministry said. “The official Libyan authorities offered apologies over the accident and pledged to probe into the circumstance of the accident and to ensure security of the Russian diplomatic mission in Tripoli.”
