
Sixty-eight percent of Germans believe Donald Trump's presidency will have a negative impact on German-US relations, a survey commissioned for German newspaper "Bild am Sonntag" revealed on Sunday.
Only 16 % of the 501 people asked by survey institute Emnid said that Trump's upcoming time in office will have a positive effect on the two countries' relations. A further 16 % either replied that they didn't know or made no response, the newspaper said, according to the (dpa).
Survey participants were also asked whether German Chancellor Angela Merkel should head to the US as soon as possible, to meet the incoming US president.
Fifty-seven % of respondents said that she should do so, while 33 % said that she shouldn't and 9 % said they didn't know or gave no response.
Donald Trump is set to be inaugurated as the 45th president of the United States this coming Friday, at a ceremony in Washington.
