Deputy House Speaker, Farid Makari, said Wednesday the adoption of the Orthodox Gathering's law would be a huge historic mistake and an unforgivable sin, spurning a so-called "Christian unanimity" over said proposal. "We respect Speaker Nabih Berri's vow to adopt what Christians agree on, but in fact, it is wrong to say there is unanimity over the Orthodox proposal among Christians. Only four parties approved this law, but there is still a large faction of Christians that is not concerned with this agreement," he said. Makari maintained that the Orthodox proposal was prone to sharpen sectarian rifts and isolate the components of the Lebanese society. He called the electoral subcommittee to skim through another option to be acceptable among the Lebanese.
