Malaysia protests against US, Australian espionage

Malaysia has protested over the alleged spying on its government by the United States and Australia, Prime Minister Najib Razak said Tuesday. Malaysia, in principle, opposes any spying activity on any government as it involves the question of national sovereignty, he said. He said the Foreign Ministry had obtained clarifications from both U.S and Australian envoys regarding the alleged spying activities at the their embassies. Najib said he had been informed that U.S. President Barack Obama had ordered a review on the matter. Malaysian government has warned that the alleged spying activities might affect the relations between Malaysia and the countries involved, following media reports that the U.S. embassy and the Australian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur had conducted surveillance program to intercept telecommunication and the Internet.
