Acting president Moncef Marzouki said that Tunisia is deeply rooted in the Maghreb area and is determined to join efforts to meet the challenges of development and security in the region. Addressing on Tuesday the Arab Summit in Doha (Qatar), he said that the roadmap in favour of Maghreb integration suggested by Tunisia and providing five liberties (freedom of movement, residence, work, investment and vote in municipal elections) to Maghreb nationals could represent a model for the remaining Arab states. He also stressed the need to achieve Arab unity in the two coming decades at the latest, suggesting to Arab countries to start establishing the foundations of this structure within the Arab league framework. The events that happened in the Arab region are likely to cause thorough changes in political systems and to turn towards democracy, he also said.Speaking of the poor rate of Arab economic integration compared with other regional areas, Marzouki stressed the need to boost economic cooperation for the benefit of peoples of the region. He reminded that Tunisia will host the next Arab economic summit in 2015.
