The meeting program between Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades and European Parliament President Martin Schulz has changed in the wake of the Egyptian plane hijacking.
Schulz was supposed to have a private meeting with Anastasiades but the program was changed due to the hijacking of the Egyptian plane in the morning, the Cypriot newspaper Cyprus Mail reported Tuesday.
Instead Schulz made a statement saying that it is much different to experience such an act of terror at first hand than just seeing it on a screen and that he hopes it is possible to prevent such acts of terrorism with the help of international cooperation.
Afterwards Schulz and Anastasiades held a joint press conference. Both strongly condemned the terrorist attacks in Brussels and the hijacking of the plane in Cyprus and expressed mutual support and solidarity.
“I hope all people at the airport and in the plane will be safe and due to the professional management this crisis will come to a good solution,” Schulz said.
