Germany's Vice Chancellor and Economy Minister Sigmar Gabriel said Berlin is ready to back Egypt to protect its borders with Libya.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, the minister said conditions in Iraq are very special, adding Germany supplied Peshmerga with arms to help fighting Daesh terrorists that targeted Iraqi Yazidis.
Gabriel refuted the discussion of the issue of exporting German arms to Egypt, adding that the issue of supplying German submarines to Cairo was discussed at a meeting with the Egyptian side.
Since years, Germany had stopped exporting arms to countries afflicted by civil wars and armed conflicts to avoid igniting these wars, Gabriel made it clear.
Asked about terrorist threats in Europe, he said the security situation in Egypt is more complicated than in Europe, adding that facing terrorism requires taking necessary measures without harming public freedoms.
