Michael McFaul: US asks simply return of Mr Snowden

The United States asks Russia not to extradite former CIA technical contractor Edward Snowden, but just to return him, U.S. Ambassador in Moscow Michael McFaul said. “Mr. Snowden ought to be returned to the United States to face the felony charges against him,” McFaul wrote in his Twitter on Thursday. \"The U.S. is not asking for \"extradition\", but simply the return of Mr. Snowden. We have sent many people back to Russia,\" he added. Yesterday it has been reported that the Federal Migration Service /FMS/ of Russia can provide Snowden with a certificate which will allow him to leave the transit zone of ??the airport. According to lawyer Anatoly Kucherena, \"the documents for Snowden\'s temporary asylum are pending at the Federal Migration Service, the issue is not yet resolved.\" Meanwhile, the U.S. wants Russia to clarify the status of Edward Snowden. The State Department said that Washington will be deeply disappointed if the ex-CIA agent gets out of Sheremetyevo. Edward Snowden is a former CIA technician. In June 2013 he passed the media data disclosing facts of electronic surveillance conducted by American intelligence services towards users of the largest Internet companies\' websites and social networks, as well as of U.S. surveillance of foreign partners. It became the biggest intelligence leak in American history.
