Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati and the World Food Program (WFP) representative in Syria Muhannad Hadi on Friday discussed facilities and means of using Lebanese ports to deliver food aid to Syria. “We relied on Lebanon in the past and it has been always a conduit for neighboring countries. Mikati promised to provide all assistance in this regard,” Hadi said after the meeting. The humanitarian situation in war-battered Syria has become an area of concern as the 21-month-long crisis turned into a civil war, with no signs of near settlement. Independent estimates put the number of casualties at more than 40000.
