Hurriyat Conference leader, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, on Tuesday met President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, in New York, felicitating him on his “bold” bid for statehood at the United Nations. In his meeting with Abbas, Kashmiri leader said that the Palestinians had endured untold suffering and loss like Kashmiris in their fight against external occupation, said a Hurriyat Conference statement issued here today. He expressed confidence that the immense Palestinian sacrifices would bear fruit, and that Kashmiris too would get a similar opportunity, it said. Mirwaiz has also welcomed a statement by noted Indian Supreme Court lawyer and member of Team Anna, Prashant Bhushan, in which he had called for demilitarization of Kashmir and a referendum in the conflict-torn region to ascertain the wishes of its people.
