Morocco called on the UN member states to support its bid for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for 2012-2013. The call was made by Moroccan Foreign Minister Taib Fassi Fihri during the general debate of the 66th session of the UN General Assembly, Morocco''s official news agency reported. The candidacy is aimed at serving peace and stability and promoting solidarity and universal values, Fassi Fihri said. Fassi Fihri added that the the candidacy is also intended to enhance international solidarity, especially among developing countries within the framework of South-South cooperation. Morocco is confident that "your support for this legitimate candidacy, which coincides with a particular regional juncture, will give Morocco''s presence within the Security Council a special dimension," the minister told the member states.
