Morsi meets Supreme Judicial Council members

President Mohamed Morsi received here Monday members of the Supreme Judicial Council to discuss the ramifications of the constitutional declaration he issued last week. During the meeting, Morsi affirmed his keenness on the independence of the judicial authority and voiced his full respect of its work to end the transitional period and ensure the success of the democratic transition. The new constitutional declaration issued by Morsi ruled that all laws, decrees and constitutional declarations issued by the president since he came into office on June 30 are final and unchallengeable by any body. Morsi also decided Thursday to sack Prosecutor General Abdel-Meguid Mahmoud and to appoint Talaat Ibrahim Abdullah as new prosecutor general, raising controversies among political forces and the public. Morsi met Monday with Prime Minister Hisham Qandil, Interior Minister Ahmed Gamaleddin and head of the national security sector at the Interior Ministry Khaled Tharwat to tackle the domestic scene. During the meeting, Morsi underlined that all state bodies should respect the right to stage peaceful protests and free expression of opinion, said presidential spokesman Yasser Ali.
