Myanmar stresses need for US to respect others\' sovereignty

Myanmar's presidential spokesman U Ye Htut has stressed the need for the United States to respect the sovereignty of other countries while having the rights to ensure the security of its diplomatic missions in these countries, the private Daily Eleven reported on Sunday. U Ye Htut, who is also deputy minister of information, was referring to allegations that the U.S. is carrying out secret intelligence undertakings in Myanmar through its Embassy here. While understanding the U.S. move for prevention against the danger of terrorism, U Ye Htut emphasized the need for the U.S. to respect the rights of individual freedom. It was reported by Sydney Morning Herald that the U.S. is conducting secret intelligence work worldwide, especially in East and Southeast Asia through its embassies and consular offices based there including those in Myanmar.
