Myanmar's president-elect has nominated Nobel peace prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi to take a ministerial post in the new cabinet, the speaker of parliament said Tuesday.
President Htin Kyaw was putting forward 18 candidates, including Suu Kyi, for 21 ministries, Speaker Mann Win Khiang Than said.
Parliament ended its 15-minute session without disclosing the details of which nominee would get which post.
Suu Kyi led the National League for Democracy (NLD) to a historic election victory in November, but a constitution drafted by the former junta bars her from the presidency because her two sons are British citizens, as was her late husband. The incoming government will take power next month.
