Dr Abdulaziz Hassan Abul has been elected unopposed as president of the National Institute of Human Rights (NIHR). Meanwhile, Abdulla Ahmed Isa Al-Dirazi will take over as NIHR deputy president. The board of commissioners held today (February9) its first procedural meeting at NIHR headquarters and announced the election results. The NIHR board of commissioners has also approved the permanent committees in conformity with the Royal Order. Thus, Abdulla Ahmed Isa Al-Dirazi will chair the committee in charge complaints, monitoring and follow-up. Jamila Salman Naseef has been appointed as head of the Civil and Political Rights Committee, while Dr. Fawziya Saeed Saleh will take over as head of the Economic, Social and Cultural Rights Committee. The board of commissioners has also reappointed Dr. Ahmed Abdulla Farhan as NIHR secretary-general for a four-year term. The NIHR board of commissioners will convene on February 27 for its first regular meeting.
