Members of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly gathered in Dubrovnik to discuss Syria, Middle East and Kosovo, as well as the future pull of the forces from Afghanistan. Among participants of this meeting are President of the Assembly Hugh Bayley, along side NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Croatian President Ivo Josipovic, President of the Parliament of Croatia Josip Leko and Foreign Minister Vesna Pusic. In his inaugural speech, Bayley said this meeting will by large be dedicated to the current situation in Syria. “This war in Syria is full of hatred and blood, and it has to stop as soon as it is possible, firstly because of the people living there, and that because it is cause of the instability in the region. At the same time, I want to send the message that chemical weapons have to be destroyed in order to make sure this war will end soon,” Bayley said adding that NATO’s role in Syria is yet to be defined. He also said that NATO members do agree that political solution for Syria is needed, while military response should be used only if there is not other solution. It is expected that participants of the meeting will adopt a resolution on Syria.
