Members of the National Constituent Assembly (NCA) reasserted, on Friday during a meeting held under the chairmanship of Speaker Mustapha Ben Jaafar, their attachment to respect of freedoms, and in the first place freedom of speech and for peaceful protest. They called, in a communiqué released on Saturday, for the respect of the supremacy of law and total rejection of violence. Besides, they stressed the imperative to respect and preserve the educational institutions' integrity from any political strife. The NCA members attending in the meeting also called on all to show restraint and responsibility by opting for dialogue to resolve dissensions of any nature. Tunisia is going through a delicate and decisive stage where priority should be granted to the building of a new democratic regime, a fair economic system and the attributes of decent life to all, they reminded, "which requires avoiding the causes of tension and insecurity that threaten stability of the country." The meeting was convened to look into the last events in Tunisia, particularly the protest movements in various sectors, the sit-ins in several economic enterprises and educational institutions, notably the recent incidents at the Manouba Faculty of Letters, Arts and Humanities.
