
Nepal’s newly elected constituent assembly was sworn in Tuesday, as the country edges closer towards drafting its new constitution.Chairman of the Assembly Surya Bahadur Thapa administered the oath of 575 representatives, in the presence of President Ram Baran Yadav. The assembly consists of 601 members; 26 members were chosen on merit, 335 were chosen based on proportional representationa and 240 were elected directly.The assembly will start its first meeting on Wednesday, and will discuss the unresolved issues of its predecessor which failed to produce any draft for the country’s constitution.
