Nigeria establishes camp for repentant Boko Haram members

The Nigerian government has established a rehabilitation camp for repentant Boko Haram members as part of its post insurgency program for youths in the northeast, according to a statement.

The statement, issued by the spokesperson of the Nigerian defense headquarters, Brig. Gen. Rabe Abubakar and made available to Xinhua on Tuesday, said the establishment of the camp was in line with government's commitment to rehabilitate and reintegrate surrendered and repentant insurgents.
He said the establishment of the camp was done under an exercise known as `Operation Safe Corridor' coordinated by the Defense Headquarters.

Abubakar added that the main focus of Operation Safe Corridor was to rehabilitate and reintegrate repentant members of the Boko Haram group, as well as those of them who surrendered back into the society.

The defense spokesperson said the repentant terrorists in the camp would be taken through various vocational training in order to make them useful to themselves and to their communities and urged recalcitrant members of the group to repent and benefit from the numerous opportunities offered at the camp.
According to him, the final onslaught against the remnant of the terrorists will continue unabated and will not relent until the power of evil forces in the North East is completely neutralized.

"The reluctant Boko Haram members should therefore see wisdom in surrendering now, thereby saving themselves from imminent calamity that is about to befall them," he added.

The Nigerian government inaugurated the committee on rehabilitation of repentant terrorists in 2015.
