North Korea's highest court has sentenced an detained US student to a 15-year hard labor on crimes against the communist state, foreign newswire services reported Wednesday.
A 21-year-old US student, Otto Warmbier was arrested and detained by the North in January this year for allegedly conducting hostile acts against the regime.
The North's media claimed that the student entered North Korea nominally for tourism, though the real intention was to undermine North Korea's unity under the US government's acquiescence and control, South Korean News Agency (Yonhap) reported.
