Number of Syrian refugees in Turkey exceeds 500,000

The number of Syrians, who had to leave the country and who are accommodated at refugee camps in Turkey, exceeded 200,000 people, but this figure already exceeded 500,000 people taking into account all refugees living outside the refugee camps. The population in several Turkish provinces is smaller that the number of Syrian refugees there, the Hurriyet newspaper reported on Thursday. The Turkish Foreign Ministry stated that Syrian citizens are accommodated at 20 camps. As many as 45,000 children and teenagers are among the refugees. Meanwhile, more than 5,600 children were born in the families of Syrian refugees in Turkey for 2.5 years of a military crisis in Syria. Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu stated in Geneva on Wednesday that the crisis processes related with the refugees have worsened over a new spiral of tension in Syria. “We do not want this, but after the use of chemical weapons in Syria the inflow of refugees in neighboring countries may grow considerably. We stated a long time ago about our concerns in the Office the U.N. high commissioner for refugees and asked him to discuss this problem,” the minister said. Turkey has spent about one billion dollars for 2.5 years of instability in Syria to provide the refugees with all necessary supplies.
