U.S. President Barack Obama has won 59 percent of the vote in California with 98 percent of the state\'s 24,491 election precincts counted by early Wednesday. This is the sixth time in a row that Democratic party won in California for the presidential election since 1992. The \"safe blue state\" is crucial with 55 electoral votes, more than any other state in the country. Obama\'s challenger Mitt Romney got 38.5 percent of the vote. In 2008, Obama, then a senator from Illinois, won the state, garnering 60.9 percent of the vote. As president, Obama maintained a strong lead in California polls before Tuesday\'s Election Day. The Hispanics who constitute about 38 percent of the population in California and Asians who constitute about 13 percent tended to vote heavily Democratic, polls showed.
