Obama happy with Friends of Syria results

US President Barack Obama expressed his readiness to use \"every tool available\" to stop the \"slaughter\" of civilians in Syria, telling reporters he was \"encouraged by the international unity\" displayed at the Friends of Syria conference held Friday in Tunisia. \"I have to say that all of us who\'ve been seeing the terrible pictures coming out of Syria and Homs recently recognize it is absolutely imperative for the international community to rally, and send a clear message to President Assad that it is time for a transition, it is time for that regime to move on, and it is time to stop the killing of Syrian citizens by their own government,\" said the US President after a bilateral meeting with Danish Prime Minister Thorning-Schmidt. \"We’re going to continue to keep the pressure up and look for every tool available to prevent the slaughter of innocents in Syria,\" he added. \"It’s important that we’re not bystanders during these extraordinary events,\" he explained. According to the White House Website, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who attended the first Friends of Syria meeting said: \"The Assad regime has ignored every warning, squandered every opportunity, and broken every agreement,\". \"Faced with determined protesters demanding their rights and their dignity, the regime is creating an appalling humanitarian disaster.\" The conference has reached results among them tightening heavy sanctions on the Syrian regime and calling for a shutdown of Syrian embassies abroad and foreign embassies in Syria as well. Additionally, acknowledging the Syrian National Council as \"a legitimate representative of Syrians seeking peaceful change\" and increasing the number of observers while giving them more powers.
