President Obama will ask the Democratic National Committee to keep Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida as chairwoman, a senior party official said. An election will take place when the committee meets in Washington Jan. 22, the day after Obama is sworn in for his second term, The Hill reported Monday. A term typically is four years, meaning Wasserman Schultz would lead the party through the 2014 midterm elections when Democrats will try to maintain control of the Senate and win back the House. During this past election cycle, there was tension between the DNC and the congressional Democratic campaign committees because DNC wasn\'t channeling money to its Senate and House counterparts.
