Official ban on same-sex marriage put up for vote in Croatia

The governing political parties in Croatia urged voters to reject a proposed ban on same-sex marriage as they went to the polls Sunday. The measure drafted by the conservative organization In The Name of Family would formally define marriage as a heterosexual union and was supported by a petition drive that gathered 750,000 signatures. Croatia Today said the majority parties in the government came out against the proposal and called on the public to vote it down.
