The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Prof Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu has congratulated the entire people of Somalia for the election of a new President and for successfully ending the political transition in their country. Prof Ihsanoglu who expressed his satisfaction with all stakeholders especially members of the Federal Parliament for their maturity and patriotism by voting in a democratic, peaceful and transparent manner to elect the new President, noted that Somalia has finally turned the page and is on a threshold of a new era of transformation and progress. He urged all Somalis to build on the momentum in order to deepen stability, achieve comprehensive national reconciliation, finalize the constitution and prepare the country towards elections on the basis of universal suffrage in the period ahead. While congratulating the new President, HE. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud for his clear victory, the Secretary General also commended the other contestants for their remarkable spirit of good sportsmanship. He then assured the new elected leadership of the determination of the OIC to genuinely contribute to the realizations of their aspirations for a united, prosperous stable and democratic Somalia.
