Oman had carried out a "huge role" during recent talks in Brussels between the P5+1 global powers and Iran which resulted in a deal on Iran's nuclear activity, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Monday. Talks with Sultan Qaboos bin Saeed of Oman had "discussed developing relations between the two friendly nations, and Iran has very developed ties with the Sultanate of Oman," he told a press briefing on a visit to the southeastern Arab Gulf country. These "joint activities" can expand and increase with time, he added, referring to relations between the two. On Iran's nuclear programme, this was "in the best interests of the Gulf states," he said. "Iran will commit to the deal with the global powers, despite it (the deal) not fulfilling its complete demands. We (Iran) will execute it, and we believe that doing this will aid the building of confidence." His visits to Kuwait and now Oman are part of the goal of boosting relations between Iran and Arab Gulf states, as Iran seeks to open a new page on its political and economic ties with the region. On Syria, the foreign minister reiterated that a political solution was the only way to solve the problem.
