Palestine should be admitted as a full member of the United Nations because such a move would lead to a resumption in negotiations to resolve the Arab-Israeli conflict, Omani Foreign Minister Yousef Bin Alawi Bin Abdullah told the U.N. General Assembly on Monday. “We believe that an establishment of a Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967 and the recognition of this state as a member of this organization will certainly lead to serious negotiations and will reach a just, comprehensive, and lasting solution of the Arab-Israeli conflict,” the foreign minister told the annual gathering of world leaders. Bin Abdullah said the situation is “at standstill, therefore the world and in particular, the U.N., should act and fulfill its responsibilities to find a just and comprehensive solution.” The foreign minister also said the United Nations, the Arab League, and the African Union should find a plan to bring peace to Somalia and stressed the need to increase humanitarian assistance to the country.
