One killed in blasts in Libya capital

At least one person was killed and several injured in two blasts in the Libyan capital Tripoli on Sunday, the Dubai-based broadcaster Al Arabiya reported, according to dpa. The death and injuries occurred when a car bomb exploded on Omar Mokhtar Avenue, a main road. The second blast was caused by a rocket-propelled grenade that appeared to have targeted the building housing the Interior Ministry, according to the report. No casualties were reported, but the building was badly damaged. Al Arabiya, citing a security source, said two more car bombs were found in the city and defused. The attacks came on the first day of the major Muslim festival of Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan. Libya has seen several acts of violence since an armed revolt toppled Moamer Gaddafi last year. The transitional government is struggling to take control of the North African country where proliferation of arms is posing a security threat.
