PA: Israeli forces remove 12-year-old Jericho roadblock

Israeli forces have removed a roadblock which they set at the northern entrance to Jericho 12 years ago, the governor of Jericho and the Jordan Valley Majid al-Fityani told Ma’an on Saturday. Al-Fityani confirmed that Israeli bulldozers removed Saturday morning the cement and dirt barricades near an-Nuweima village allowing Palestinian vehicles to use the road. However, he highlighted that the Palestinian Authority demanded that Israeli forces remove al-Hamra and other checkpoints in the Jordan Valley. The governor highlighted that removal of Nuweima roadblock would help farmers in the Jordan Valley in the first place. The move will also be helpful to Palestinian citizens traveling from the northern West Bank to Jericho, he added. Israeli forces had shut down the northern entrance near Nuweima in 2000 after the second Intifada erupted.
