Pakistan accuses India over deadly Kashmir clashes

The Pakistani military said Indian troops shot and killed a Pakistani soldier on Thursday, the third deadly cross-border incident reported in five days in the disputed Kashmir region. \"Pakistan Army soldier, Havildar Mohyuddin, embraced shahadat (martyrdom) due to unprovoked firing by Indian troops at Hotspring sector in Battal at 2:40 pm (0940 GMT) today,\" the military said in a text message to reporters. \"Today, India troops resorted to unprovoked firing at a Pakistani post named Kundi,\" it added. The report came one day after the United States urged the nuclear-armed rivals to cool tensions along the heavily militarised Line of Control, the de facto border in Kashmir. India said two of its soldiers were killed by Pakistani troops on Tuesday, including one who was beheaded. On Sunday, the Pakistani army accused India of killing one of its soldiers and wounding another. Muslim-majority Kashmir, a Himalayan region that India and Pakistan both claim in full but rule in part, has been the cause of two of their three wars since independence from Britain in 1947. A ceasefire has been in place since 2003 along the Line of Control but it is periodically violated by both sides.
