ISLAMABAD - Arab Today

 Pakistan and Turkmenistan have agreed to speed up the implementation of the gas pipeline project from Turkmenistan to Pakistan.

Eight agreements for cooperation in areas of energy, economy ,trade, and education were signed as the outcome of the talks between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the President of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who began a visit to Islamabad yesterday.

In a joint press conference held at the conclusion of the talks, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that both countries enjoy close friendly relations and have a genuine desire to further enhance bilateral relations and meet the need of Pakistan to import gas and electricity from Turkmenistan The Turkmen President described his talks with Sharif as fruitful and productive and will further promote brotherly relations.

He explained that the gas pipeline project (TAPI) will be built as soon as possible due to its importance in promoting economic and social development in Pakistan. He called for increasing the volume of bilateral trade and facilitation of visas.
