Talks with Israel will not be easy, but Palestine hopes they will be positive, Palestinian ambassador to Russia Fayed Mustafa told Itar-Tass on Tuesday. In reply to the question whether the first meetings in Washington proceeded in a positive manner, he said, “We hope so. The global community for a long time has taken efforts to start a new round of peace talks.” Late Monday U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry met with representatives of Israeli and Palestinian delegations, who arrived in Washington to resume direct peace talks for the first time since 2010. The Israeli delegation is led by Justice Minister Tzipi Livni; the Palestinian counterparts are led by chief negotiator Saeb Erekat. The main round of talks will start in Washington on Tuesday. It is expected to take place behind closed doors. The meeting will be conluded by John Kerry making an official statement.
