Palestinian ex-policeman indicted for 2011 murder of Israeli

An Israeli military tribunal on Thursday indicted a former member of the Palestinian security forces for killing an Israeli in the West Bank two years ago. Nuaf Uda, 24, was charged with killing Ben Yosef Livnat at Joseph\'s Tomb near Nablus in April 2011, a military spokesman told Xinhua, adding that five others were wounded in the attack. The Shin Bet and Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced in separate statements on June 19 the arrests of Uda and two other West Bank residents for their alleged involvement in the attack. The IDF statement said that the suspects had served in the Palestinian police force and were members of a militant cell at the time of the attack. They fired at a group of Jewish worshippers who arrived at the tomb for early morning prayers, among whom was Livnat, a father of four from Jerusalem and nephew of Culture and Sports Minister Limor Livnat. Livnat was hit by a single bullet and pronounced dead by paramedics on the scene. The suspects were arrested on May 22 in a joint Shin Bet-IDF operation. Local media quoted a security source as saying on Thursday that no date has been set for a court hearing on whether to hold the suspects in custody until the end of the legal proceedings.
