French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius and his visiting Jordanian counterpart Nasser Judeh on Friday welcomed a suggestion by Syrian opposition groups for dialogue with representatives from the Syrian regime. Fabius said at a joint news conference with Judeh the suggestion made by Chairman of the National Coalition for Syrian Opposition and Revolutionary Forces Muath Al-Khateeb was highly valuable. He voiced his country's support for the initiative, which he said showed Al-Khateeb's keenness on the future of Syria. He reiterated that efforts should be exerted in order to find a political solution to the aggravating crisis of Syria. Fabius emphasized that those involved in the killing of Syrians should be denied access to the transitional political process in Syria. For his part, the Jordanian foreign minister said his country backed all international efforts to find a way out of the Syrian problem. He expressed his country's backing to the proposal by the chairman of the Syrian opposition coalition on talks with the Syrian regime. He said he had discussed with the French foreign minister the stalled Middle East peace process and the current situation in Mali. Al-Khateeb had showed willingness to have face-to-face talks with representatives from the Syrian regime as a good gesture to halt bloodshed in his country.
