Trump
Dubai - Arab Today

The world is seeing that career politicians are exactly that. They are making a career, often driven by the lust for power, out of politics. But when most of us suffer because of their couldn’t care less attitude, their deliberate ignoring of the people who put them in power, broken promises and a worsening economic situation and a lowering of the standard of living – what can they expect? People look for something new, something refreshing.

Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte is now a Philippine national hero and extremely popular - not a corrupt member of the Manila political elite, cartel or establishment. He is cleaning up drugs and corruption, the two main issues that drag the Philippines down. French political leader Marie Le Penn, is expected to rise to success because she is in touch with the French people and French sentiment. The French are deep down staunch nationalists, socialists and a very proud people. In the UK, if immigration hadn’t been allowed to get out of control and if Britain hadn’t been faced with five unelected “presidents” dictating the rules of membership of the EU to Britain, often to its detriment, Brexit probably would never have happened. Russian President Vladimir Putin is another strong leader. He draws the people in from his strength and undoubtedly from fear, but what is the working alternative? Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is bringing India forward economically as a world recognised trading nation.

The world does not need politicians – a synonym for liars, cheats and power players. Donald Trump, if he keeps his word, will bring strength and respect back to America. Many fear Brexit rather than see it as an opportunity. Many fear Trump because they cannot predict what will now happen. But in order to know, you have to give the person a chance to honour his words and his commitments.

The world has tried integration and liberalism and yet many countries cannot agree on trade, on defence and upon immigration. Maybe now it is time for each country to take control of itself, take stock and make a fresh approach. Some are doing it. More will follow. Hopefully once again we shall all enjoy national pride that has slowly eroded away.

The UAE has such national pride. It was truly a great sight, seeing so many people on the streets celebrating Flag Day earlier this month. I am not an Emirati, but I was happy and proud to join in with them. The UAE has great leadership, fair leadership and the people are happy and well looked after with health and education and the issues that matter to the man on the street. Maybe some of the countries of the world could do well to look at the UAE’s example.

I believe that each country has realised that it doesn’t want to lose its identity, its traditions and its culture. Each country needs to look after its own interests, focussing on its strengths and removing its weaknesses. That is the global move we are seeing now and I believe it will continue.
