Peskov: Putin and Cameron meeting to focus on Syria

The Kremlin confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin would meet British Prime Minister David Cameron on May 10. “Of course, Syria will prioritise at the meeting due to the difficult situation,” presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Itar-Tass on Wednesday. “The talks will also focus on bilateral relations,” Peskov added. Speaking at the parliament, Cameron said he would leave for Russia to talks with Putin on the situation in Syria. “The room for doubt about this continues to diminish,” Cameron told parliament. “There\'s an urgent need to start a proper negotiation to force a political transition and to bring this conflict to an end.” Cameron said he would fly to Russia on Friday to discuss the matter with President Vladimir Putin. “In Syria the atrocities continue to mount,” he said. Armed confrontation has continued in Syria since March 2011. Over 70,000 people fall victims of the conflict. The crisis is accompanied by the serious humanitarian catastrophe: according to the U.N., over five million people need foodstuffs, essential goods and medical assistance. Syrian refugees in neighbouring countries reached one million.
