The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) presented the UN General Assembly with a draft resolution asking to be recognized as a non-member-observer state Tuesday. PNA leader Mahmud Abbas says the draft is ready for a vote on Thursday. The draft stresses the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and independence and urges the Security Council to consider a 2011 request for full UN membership made by Mahmud Abbas. It underlines the need for urgency in the light of current conflict in the Middle East. And it calls on member states and UN agencies to continue to support the Palestinian people in their bid for self determination and freedom
