Police confirm 10 killed in northern Nigeria gunmen attack

At least 10 people have been killed in an attack by gunmen who struck at Addu Village of northwest Nigeria\'s Kaduna State, local police confirmed on Tuesday. Two families were separately killed in the attack on Monday, along with other residents of the village, state police spokesperson Aminu Lawan said. \"Some of the people suspected to have carried out the attack have been arrested and are currently undergoing interrogation,\" he added. A resident and youth leader of the community identified as Raphael Soja told a Xinhua reporter that the gunmen entered the village through a forest, shooting indiscriminately, while others used swords and knives to slit the throats of residents. \"That was how a couple and their two children were killed. And then, another couple were killed while the children escaped,\" he explained, adding that so far, eight dead bodies had been retrieved by the distraught villagers. He said the youth of the community were still looking for other missing bodies as at the time of filing this report. Addu Village is located in Kaura local government area of the northwestern Kaduna, a state which has witnessed high number of attacks since 2011, after a post-election violence took place across the city. Pockets of violence and unrest had plagued the northern and central parts of Nigeria since 2009, when the Boko Haram sect launched its insurgency in which thousands of people, mostly women and children, have been killed.
