Police raid Turkish charity accused of sending arms to Syria

Turkish police on Tuesday raided the offices of an Islamic charity which has been accused of trying to ship arms to neighboring Syria. Police searched the premises of the Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) in southern town of Kilis near the Syrian border, the charity's vice president Huseyin Oruc told Agence France Presse. He did not give a reason for the police action but said: "We see this part of a dirty plot." Two weeks ago, Turkish media reported that security forces had stopped a truck loaded with arms and ammunition on the Syrian border and arrested three people including a Syrian. The drivers claimed they were carrying aid on behalf of IHH but the organisation denied the allegations as "slanderous".
