Police to question US. serviceman on alleged break-in in Okinawa

Japanese police will question a U.S. military serviceman on suspicion of breaking into an apartment and beating a teenage boy after drinking last Friday in the village of Yomitan, Okinawa Prefecture, local media reported on Monday. The police will question the 24-year-old serviceman outside of the U.S. Air Force\'s Kadena base where he is stationed. The serviceman broke into the apartment at around 1 a.m. last Friday and hit a 13-year-old junior high school Japanese boy in the face, according to the police. The U.S. serviceman was injured when jumping out of the window at the apartment on the third floor where he hit the boy. He had been drinking at a Japanese-style pub on the first floor of the same building, according to media reports. The incident occurred at a time when U.S. military personnel in Japan are under a curfew from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., which took effect on Oct. 19 following the alleged rape by two U.S. servicemen of a Japanese woman in Okinawa earlier in October.
