Premier orders legal action on 2 new GAM files

Prime Minister Marouf Bakhit on Tuesday referred to the attorney general’s office two more suspected corruption cases related to the work of the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM), the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. With the new cases, the number of GAM-related files referred to the attorney’s office in less than two weeks has risen to six. A House panel is currently looking into all of the municipality’s projects during the past 10 years. The committee forwards its recommendations and findings to the House speakership before they are passed on to the premier The first of the two most recent files is related to GAM’s purchasing of a piece of land owned by its employees housing fund in 2009, while the other has to do with the municipality’s recommendation on incentives, expenses and financial assistance disbursed to its council members, half of whom are elected, along with the mayor. The premier instructed Minister of Justice Ibrahim Omoush to take legal action on both cases, according to Petra. Bakhit recently referred two files related to GAM to the attorney general.
